Providing Healthy Food for Kids Throughout the Summer

What’s “Lunch in the Sun,” you ask? Lunch in the Sun is a program that helps ensure that youth (up to 18 years old) receive a nutritious meal in the summer months when school is not in session. The program invites youth of all ages to come to the pool, relax, enjoy a great meal, make a new friend, and participate in fun activities.

The Lunch in the Sun program is flourishing and is now being run with the help of local churches who organize volunteers and resources to provide lunch to the community youth three days a week at the city pool. We hope this program alleviates some of the worry children may feel in the summer about being hungry.

  • In 2023, we passed out 578 lunches with the help of 6 churches.
  • In 2024, we passed out 605 lunches with the help of 6 churches.
  • In 2025, we passed out 738 lunches with the help of 6 churches.

In 2025, we served lunches on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from noon – 1 p.m. from June 11 – August 22. If the pool is closed due to inclement weather, lunch is sometimes cancelled. Stay tuned for 2026 dates!
