The Carbon County Historical Society and Museum opened their arms to two summer interns. Jolie Davis, who is a returning intern with the museum, and Charlotte Kosel. These two eager and ambitious ladies were able to learn many life and career skills through this internship that they will be using for their future.

Near the end of their time at the museum, I went over to speak with the staff to learn some insights regarding the benefits of interning.

One of the interns, Charlotte Kosel, is an incoming senior at Roberts High school. Her interests were in writing, editing, history and the arts, which made the museum an excellent experience to hone in on some of thee skills. When asked how she could describe this opportunity, Charlotte had to say, “[it] was self-motivating and explorative”. Charlotte hopes her new steps in her career will be within the history field or anthropology.

When speaking with Jolie Davis, currently a Junior at Belfry and second year interning at the museum. Jolie shared that some of the strong points of the internship experience for her was, “[the internship] helped develop social skills.” When asked what her next steps are in her career, Jolie stated her next goal is graduate high school.

Becky Van Horn, the museums Historic Preservation Officer and Intern Supervisor, was very appreciative these young teens were able to take time out of their busy summers to come to the museum and offer an extra hand. Becky continuously expressed great admiration for Charlotte and Jolie, sharing with us how “positive and productive” they were on the job.

We are grateful to offer such program to help local non profits with an extra hand as well as our local youth the opportunity to take on different responsibilities and be able to showcase these new skills within their career. Good luck ladies!

We offer many different types of internships for our local high school students, including Visual/Audio Tech Assistant at the Roosevelt Center, Garden Events Assistant at the Youth and Art garden, and many more!
