The newly formed Housing committee is currently building up its resources to create a new strategic approach to address affordable workforce housing in Red Lodge. We appreciate the past efforts of Carbon County Habitat for Humanity, and, with its closure, the transfer of assets to the Community Foundation to ensure the continued progress of affordable housing in our community.

During this transition it has become necessary to postpone the annual Habitat Rummage sale that took place over Memorial Day weekend. We know that this is a beloved tradition and provided an important service to the community, especially because we do not have a used furniture store here. We appreciate the amazing and generous volunteers of Habitat who worked on that sale for numerous years. We hope that you understand and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The Housing committee has been working on several leads to find a solution to the high demand for affordable used furniture. One possibility is to transform the Rummage Sale to a “monthly” sale, rather than an “annual” sale. As soon as we develop a sustainable solution we will update the community. In the meantime, if you have furniture, or other items that you were saving for this fundraising event, you may consider utilizing the classified ads of the Carbon County News or the classifieds on Facebook. These items are in high demand and tend to go quickly.

Again, we apologize for suspending this fundraising effort for affordable housing and hope to find a new opportunity soon. If you have any ideas about this, or want to get involved, please contact natalie@rlacf.org, call 446-2820, or drop in at the Foundation.
