Get Help with Energy Assistance Applications on October 10th

Therese Picasso-Edwards, Resilient Community Program Director, Red Lodge Area Community Foundation

The State of Montana, through the Department of Public Health and Human Services, offers two programs aimed at helping low-income individuals reduce their heating costs. Client service workers will be providing free assistance with applications to either of these programs in Red Lodge on October 10th.

The Low Income Energy Assistance Program or LIEAP pays part of winter energy bills for eligible people. Most utilities offer LIEAP recipients discounts on their bills. The Weatherization Program helps participants to improve the heating efficiency of their homes and thus reduce their energy consumption.  LIEAP can also help with furnace or hot water heater emergencies.  Assistance from LIEAP runs from October 2018 to April 2019.

Who is eligible?  Both renters and homeowners may apply for LIEAP.  Assistance amount is based on income eligibility.  Households with incomes at or under $23,876 for one person, $31,223 for two people, and $38,569 for three people are eligible. Those living on fixed incomes such as Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability Insurance, Veterans Assistance, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families may also apply.

Have questions?  Need help applying? Client Service workers from HRDC, a community action agency based in Billings will be at the Red Lodge Area Community Foundation on October 10 to share knowledge and provide application assistance.  Contact Therese at therese@rlacf.org or call 406 425-0908 to learn more or schedule an appointment.
