Summer of 2015 marks the 40th anniversary of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). SFSP continues to grow in Montana. In 2014, SFSP invited various communities throughout Montana to take part in the Summer Food Program. The Summer Food Program provides free nutritious lunch meals in the summer months, to youth up to 18 years of age who are in need. For some, this program is the only meal they might receive for the day. Red Lodge stepped up and the program was a major success.

In 2014, there were a total of 192 SFSP sites in Montana. Four were in Carbon County. The one that stood out the most was Red Lodge! In celebration of SFSP 40th anniversary, Red Lodge has been highlighted in the Montana Summer Food Service Program Report Card. Some of the highlights include how the community rallied and worked together to produce a successful summer food program, how through community volunteerism, outreach, marketing and organization the program was a success.
